There are 27 undefeated public school football teams on Long Island, some of them pure chalk and some of them pure surprises. But after Week 3, they all have visions of the Long Island Championship dancing in their heads. How realistic are those dreams? We’ll know a lot more at this time next week because Week 4 features a number of intriguing matchups that could go a long way towards determining those all-important playoff seeds. Among those are four games involving unbeaten teams.

In Nassau III, Hewlett (3-0) hosts Plainedge (3-0) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. In Nassau IV, Seaford (3-0) hosts West Hempstead (4-0) under the Friday night lights at 7 o’clock.

In Suffolk II, Newfield (3-0) hosts West Islip (3-0) on Friday in a twilight game that starts at 5:30 p.m. In Suffolk IV, Mount Sinai (3-0) hosts Babylon (3-0) at 2 p.m.

There are several other games that should provide serious tests for teams with perfect records. In Nassau I, Farmingdale (3-0) hosts Plainview JFK (2-1) on Friday night at 6:30 and Massapequa (3-0) visits Baldwin (2-1) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. In NassauII: Wantagh (3-0) is at Carey (2-1) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

In Suffolk I, Sachem North (3-0) hosts Sachem East (2-1) in an always intense intra-district game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. In Suffolk II, long-time rivals East Islip (3-0) and North Babylon (2-1) square off at E.I. on Saturday at 2 p.m. In Suffolk III, Sayville (3-0) visits Westhampton (2-1) on Friday night at 6:30 and Amityville (2-1) visits Huntington (3-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

And in the CHSFL, Mineola will be rocking when Chaminade (3-0) hosts St. Anthony’s (1-2) in a key Catholic league game.

This would be a good weekend to show some school and community spirit and check out a high school football game.
