Westbury to waive fees on post-Sandy repairs

Following the lead of municipal and town governments Islandwide, the Village of Westbury has announced it will waive some fees for homeowners beginning repair and restoration jobs in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
The village said that while its building department might ordinarily charge residents to start these projects, after the recent storm and a subsequent nor’easter, that practice was not “appropriate.”
Mayor Peter Cavallaro said the waiver would encompass building permit fees for “storm-related work,” such as the installation of generators.
The village’s own review process for approving the repairs would be expedited, Cavallaro said.
“We don’t want people being delayed by us,” the mayor said.
Homeowners would still be required to schedule an inspection and file a permit.
