Includes Riverhead, Northeast Brookhaven, Northwest part of Southampton
Jodi Giglio has grown ably into the role during her first term in the Assembly. Her best moments have been working across the aisle on environmental and district issues which she knows exceptionally well given her years of service on the Riverhead Town board.
The 54-year-old Republican from Baiting Hollow understands the importance of transit-oriented development in Riverhead, and has been an effective representative for her constituents. One highlight was her work on behalf of Fishers Island residents to get smoother access to state Department of Motor Vehicles services, including her advocacy toward a DMV terminal on the island.
Giglio’s opponent, Democrat Wendy Hamberger, is a 54-year-old attorney from Center Moriches making her first run for office. Hamberger is rightly focused on affordability, but doesn’t have Giglio’s depth of experience on local issues.
Newsday endorses Giglio.
