With two terms under his belt, Joseph P. DeStefano, 62, plans to continue his bipartisan work in Albany to “advocate for ideas and things that make sense.”

The Medford Republican, who has worked across the aisle since being elected in 2018, teamed with Democrats to get a bill passed that recognized 911 dispatchers as first responders, making them eligible for more training and benefits. He says he plans to introduce more bills with bipartisan support in the coming session, including a measure that would provide up to three years of pension credits for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel.

DeStefano has a granular knowledge of his district, which allows him to provide excellent constituent service, and he is proud that he was able to keep his office open throughout the pandemic.

Opponent Trina Miles, 47, a Mastic Democrat, is not actively campaigning.

Newsday endorses DeStefano.
