I recently saw a T-shirt with a slogan that seems particularly relevant to this election cycle:

“Read, Think, Vote.”

I believe that, especially this year, this is an important message for all voters and would like to add some words:

“Read (facts), Think (critically), Vote (for our future).”

This slogan reminds me of the wisdom of my late father, who always encouraged his children to thoughtfully consider the viewpoints and records of candidates and choose one that most closely aligns with our own values.

Rather than simply voting along a party line, he wanted us to educate ourselves on the issues and platforms and be guided accordingly.

We all have a stake in the governing of this nation, and it is up to all of us to decide what kind of country we want to live in. So, fellow New Yorkers: Read, think, vote . . . wisely.
