Electric cars and parking at UBS arena
Gas stations should be thinking electric
Rising prices at the gas pump should make us seriously question our reliance on this climate-harming and polluting fuel. The long-term solution to volatile gas prices is electric vehicles like mine. I’m so done with paying for gas.
New York’s new climate-scoping plan allots $1 billion to electric vehicle infrastructure and increasing the affordability and ease of ownership of electric vehicles, especially for low-income New Yorkers. The final plan must contain a detailed road map to fully delineate the transition of the transportation sector to electricity. New buildings need to be EV-ready, and rehabbed ones must have EV chargers added. Direct sales of EVs to consumers must be opened up. It’s time for gas pump operators to invest in EV services.

Parking at UBS Arena an event in itself
I went to an event at UBS Arena on a recent Saturday night and was charged $50 just to park. I was shocked ["Belmont needs state signoff," Editorial, March 23]. After parking, we had to board a shuttle bus. That wasn't so bad. When the event was over, it was horrible. More than 18,000 people tried to get to their cars or whatever mode of transportation they were taking. The shuttle buses were few and far between. We decided to walk to my car. We did not see many signs or many lights. It took forever to get to the entrance of the parkway. This was poor planning.

Paying $30 to park a car in a lot that isn't even near UBS Arena is excessive. True, there are shuttle buses, but many people wind up walking rather than wait on long lines. What will the new parking garage cost to park? My ticket to the hockey game the other evening didn't even cost $30. For other events, the cost is even higher. Make the parking fees more reasonable, and neighboring communities won't suffer from excessive street parkers.
