Letter: School uniforms, then and now

The dress code, which consists of primarily a combination of Khaki shorts, pants, or skirts, along with royal blue or white shirts, is in its first year. Roosevelt High School is the first Long Island public school to institute such a policy and hopes to serve as a model for the surrounding schools. (Sept. 6, 2012) Credit: Johnny Milano
Congratulations to the Roosevelt school district for implementing a dress code ["Roosevelt's uniform approach," Editorial, Sept. 9].
I was a member of the graduating class of 1956 of what was then called Roosevelt Junior High School. When I attended, there was a strict dress code, and I am happy to see that some 50-plus years later there is a dress code again.
I hope all schools follow this lead.
