Musings: Long Island's beauty shines just as it is
It is wonderful news to learn that tourism spending on Long Island rose by 12.7% from 2022 to 2023.
With so many people attracted to this beautiful island we call home, let’s leave Long Island alone! Tourism is sensational already. Let’s just keep it as clean and as beautiful as it is.
No need to fill open spaces with more hotels or a casino. The tourists visit for the view, the quiet, the restaurants, and the people. Let’s stop the overdevelopment.
Instead, let’s keep that winning vibe and simply continue to tend to this lovely garden. Refresh what is already built, as needed, so that Nassau and Suffolk counties will continue to draw visitors as they currently do.
I feel so fortunate to have lived on Long Island since 1983, when my wife and I, who both grew up in the Bronx, moved to Nassau County.
If we preserve the quiet beauty, tourism will continue to thrive.
