Regarding NCAA athletes being compensated for their play ["NCAA's future unclear," Sports, Aug. 10], Division I athletes are granted compensation already.

Many Division I athletes receive full scholarships that include room and board. Additionally, they receive special treatment when it comes to class schedules, dorm rooms and meals. At top-tier schools, this could otherwise cost $50,000 to $60,000 a year.

For the athlete, there is often no cost whatsoever. For the privilege of playing a sport, these young men and women receive what most kids' parents have to pay in tuition and most kids have to repay in loans.
