Musings: Honk as if your life depends on it
Sometimes, honking a horn can be a driver's only defense against reckless, speeding drivers. Credit: Alamy Stock Photo/Igor Stevanovic
I was driving on the Southern State Parkway with my husband recently, holding our lives in my hands. In a split second, I suddenly saw a reckless speeder barreling down the road behind us, then quickly cutting us off on the right, doing at least 100 mph. It scared the daylights out of my husband and me!
What to do: I slammed my hand on the horn and immediately saw the speeder’s brake lights go on and his car slow down — for maybe a few moments. My honking, though, alerted other drivers to be aware of the reckless speeder. Silence does nothing.
