Macy Egeland
NewsdayTV Anchor and ReporterI’ve always loved to listen. I am fascinated by people’s life stories and truly consider it an honor when someone trusts me to tell theirs. The best part about this job is getting the opportunity to meet someone new every day.
I started writing for Newsday in April 2023, as an anchor/reporter on NewsdayTV. I’m originally from North Dakota, but I made Long Island my home years ago and have never looked back. To me, we’ve got it all and then some. I love living here and have really immersed myself in everything Long Island, learning all the ins and outs of what makes this place so special.
I am fascinated by people’s life stories and truly consider it an honor when someone trusts me to tell theirs.
At Newsday, we dig into the details of it all. What’s going on within your school district? How are our sky-high tax dollars being spent? We pride ourselves on asking the difficult questions and uncovering the truth. Since Newsday is committed to covering solely what’s impacting Long Islanders, we make it our mission not to miss a thing from the Queens border out to Montauk.
We know that each town, city and village is different, even just five miles apart, and we’ve got an ear to the ground throughout. Not just because it’s our job, but because this is our home, too. What’s affecting you is also affecting us.
During my time with Newsday, I’ve been involved in several projects I’m really proud of. Our investigative team looked into sex abuse allegations against several school administrators and staff and brought them to light. We gave a voice to people who felt forced to hide their truth for decades.
Recently, I’ve been involved in our erosion coverage, a problem facing residents on both our north and south shore that’s only getting worse with time. Plus, I’ve had a lot of fun exploring our different downtowns across the Island and showcasing what they have to offer for our segment “Destination Downtown.”
I’m lucky enough to get to report on anything and everything. Every day is different, which is great for someone like me who loves to learn and enjoys a challenge.
Outside of work, I’m usually spending time outdoors with my husband and our dogs or working out at a local CrossFit gym. If you see me out and about, please stop and say hi!
