A restored home in East Hampton, originally built in 1896, is on the market for nearly $9 million. Taxes, last assessed in 2024, are $10,405.

Standing tall on Huntting Lane, the Victorian boasts seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. The lot size is nearly half an acre, and the house totals 3,722 square feet.

There is a detached garage/guest house on the property, which is in the East Hampton Union Free School District.

"Walking in there, you can feel the history," said listing agent J.B. Andreassi, of Compass. Andreassi has appeared in the reality shows "Million Dollar Beach House" on Netflix and "Selling The Hamptons" on Max.

"You kind of walk into a time capsule, and it's an homage to what was the architectural style of homes, certainly affluent family homes, in the Hamptons," he said.

Although there are several original details preserved inside (such as the millwork and flooring, said Andreassi), the house recently underwent a major restoration. That included gutting bathrooms, revamping the third floor, sanding and repainting the exterior and installing a new back porch, the homeowner Thomas Strong shared via email.

The home was built by James Edward Huntting, the president of the East Hampton Lumber and Coal Company, and it was eventually passed down to his grandson, said Strong.

It "needed a lot of love and a lot of money to bring it back to its original nature," said Andreassi. The renovations cost somewhere between $1.75 and $2 million, he said.

Andreassi primarily works with new builds on the East End, so listing this property has offered him a moment to "take in and appreciate" all that historic homes have to offer, he said. The style of the property, from the grand architecture to the finely maintained landscaping, reflect "estate living in the Hamptons" as it was generations ago, he said.

"These homes don't change hands too often," said Andreassi. "So I think it’s a really special opportunity for someone to come in that does have that appreciation for history."
