Northport beach house overlooking Long Island Sound lists for $1.359 million
Showings of a modest white-and-gray Colonial in Northport start on a deck that overlooks Long Island Sound.
"The Sound just hits you," said listing agent Pamela Doyle, of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.
The five-bed, 2½-bath beach house listed for $1.359 million looks "unassuming" on its face, Doyle conceded. But inside, the home is "cozy and warm," filled with wood paneling and an expansive stretch of windows. The house has stood since at least 1960, according to home assessment records.
"And then you go out to the water," Doyle said.
On one side, the home overlooks the Sound; on the other, it overlooks Crab Meadow Golf Course. Though the North Shore is known for its rocky beaches, Doyle said the Makamah Beach Road home is on a sandy one.
"You walk down to your sandy beach, and you look right over to Connecticut," Doyle said.
The home sits on a 0.26-acre lot that falls within the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District. Annual taxes on the property total $14,716.
Inside, the house offers high ceilings and some original hardware and doors, she said. Built-in benches along one set of windows allow for easy access to the view of the water. Warmed by oil, baseboard and hot water, the house is also equipped with central air conditioning.
"There’s something about the water," Doyle said. "It’s a blood pressure reducer."
On the lower level of the house, find a two-car garage, laundry, a powder room and two changing rooms with showers.
