Northport home built into hillside with greenhouse-like features
A contemporary Northport home with a greenhouse-like living space is on the market for $769,000. The annual property taxes are $13,742.
Built into a hill on Waterside Avenue, the house was constructed in 1983. It sits on a 0.38-acre double lot. Flights of crimson-red, wood and brick stairs lead up to the home, which contains four bedrooms and three bathrooms, coming to a total of 2,386 square feet.
"It's very unique," said listing agent Janet Pushee, of Coldwell Banker American Homes. "The greenhouse in the front, and just the shape of the bedrooms and how the whole house flows."
The greenhouse-like living area is enclosed by curved glass and surrounded by the greenery of the property.
"It faces east, so it gets good sun in the morning," Pushee said. "When it's snowing or raining out, if you stand in that greenhouse, it's a really neat feeling because it makes you feel like you're in it, but you're not. I was in there once at night and when the stars are out, you feel like you can touch them."
The room has sliding glass doors and is heated. The furnishings of the home will be included in the sale, Pushee added.
Other standout features include a wooden tub in the primary bathroom, a wood-burning fireplace in the living room, a spiral staircase connecting the three levels and a waterfall around back, which can be heard in certain parts of the house.
"If you leave it on at night, it's a relaxing kind of noise to sleep by," said Pushee.
The property is in the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District.
