One of the first modern homes built on Long Island is on the market for $1.799 million. The annual property taxes are $21,045.

Located on Woodhollow Lane in Northport, the house was constructed in 1935. Its designers, Robert L. Davison and John Calendar, used new construction materials and techniques at the time to bring their vision to life.

Much of the greenery on the property was planted back then, said listing agent Maria McBride, of The Agency.

"One of the main things that hits you is, as you drive in, how mature the trees are," she said. "It’s just vibrant with life, and the impressive power of being surrounded by 40-to-50-foot trees is pretty special."

The property is secluded and not visible from the road, McBride added — it sits on a 2.86-acre lot, and features a 330-foot driveway.

The house contains four bedrooms and 3½ bathrooms. Although its footprint has been expanded, several original details are still there, such as a wood-burning fireplace.

"It’s been almost 100 years since it was built, but it feels very contemporary," McBride said.

Around back, there is an in-ground, 16-by-32-foot pool with its own pool house. And in  the heat, the shady trees around the property provide another respite, McBride said.

"Especially on these really hot days, it’s nice when the home is not exposed as much," she said. "There are definitely sunlit rooms, it’s not like it’s buried in the woods, but it’s tranquil and cool."

Other standout features include a guest suite and a detached three-car garage.

"It’s the place where time stands still," McBride said. "That’s what it feels like, in terms of a beautiful sense of space and serenity."

The property is served by the Kings Park Central School District.
