Smooth white pine flooring runs through an 1878 construction in Oyster Bay. The design detail and others are the product of a gut renovation completed in December.
As it stands, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom house on Anstice Street is on the market for $1.25 million. Taxes on the 0.17-acre parcel, which falls within the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District, total $11,283 annually.
"The unusual thing about the house is, for an 1878 house, it has very tall first-floor ceilings," said listing agent Kathleen Dodd, of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.

The seller purchased the Colonial in 2024 with the intention of renovating and reselling, Dodd said.
Among updates are stainless steel appliances, new Andersen windows, a Navien HVAC system, a new roof, new walls, new insulation and a new porch. The 2,000-square-foot home is cooled by central air conditioning; the heating system is fueled by natural gas.
"When people walk in, they are wowed by the level of renovation," Dodd said.

The current design offers the opportunity for a second primary bedroom, Dodd added. On the first floor, a space with its own full bathroom can be used as a bedroom or office, she said. The current designated primary bedroom is on the second floor.
In addition to its two main levels, the house has a full walk-out basement.
"It's certainly retained its charm," Dodd said; but the house has contemporary amenities suited to 2025.
