$1.8 million Fire Island home mixes 1920s, modern features
A nearly 100-year-old home with modern amenities is on the market on Fire Island for $1.799 million. The property taxes are $7,323.
Built in 1925, the house is located in Seaview, a neighborhood nestled between Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park. It contains four bedrooms and two full bathrooms.
"The house is situated on an 80-by-100 lot, which is oversized for Seaview," said listing agent Alyssa Caravella, of Fire Island Sales & Rentals. "Typically, the lots there are 60-by-100."
Seaview is a "family-friendly community" with its own ferry terminal, Caravella said. There is a homeowners association fee of $5,000 a year that covers access to the community's bayfront park, tennis courts and baseball field, she added.
The property includes a 900-square-foot deck with a hot tub, and a 120-square-foot storage shed.
A standout feature inside the home is an original clawfoot tub, which the homeowners preserved while updating the bathroom around it with features like a rain shower head. The bathrooms and kitchen were renovated about two years ago, Caravella said.
"It's so seamless how they decorated everything," she added. "It's nice to see old features mixed with some newer, modern materials."
The appeal of Seaview is the proximity to the restaurants and shopping of Ocean Beach, while living at a quieter distance, said Caravella.
And new homeowners can make their own fun right at home: "The back deck is really nice for entertaining and spending time outside, which is everybody's primary focus when they're here," Caravella said.
The flood insurance is transferable to the new homeowners. The property is served by the Fire Island School District.
