If you pass by Newsday's Melville headquarters in October, you'll see a special pink hue cast on our building, a very visible reminder of our continued support of breast cancer awareness and research.

Dear Newsday reader,

While Long Island has many wonderful attributes, we also have the unfortunate distinction of being a high-risk region for breast cancer. Yet despite advances in research, preventive care and treatment, far too many of our friends and loved ones have been touched by this disease. That's why Newsday continues to put a spotlight on breast cancer through our annual Life's Victories program.

Throughout the month of October, we will share stories of hope, strength and courage from survivors and Long Islanders who are winning the battle against breast cancer.

We invite you to read their personal profiles in Newsday and on newsday.com/lifesvictories,

And if you pass by our Melville headquarters this month, you'll see a special pink hue cast on our building. It serves as a reminder on how early detection and increased awareness can save lives - and most important, it's a reminder of our continued support for all of those still fighting.

Sincerely,
