Crystal Kim, December Long Island Scholar Artist
Cellist Crystal Kim is a senior at Plainview-Old Bethpage/J.F.K. High School. Her musical talents are evident through participation in the school’s Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Advanced Placement Music Theory Class and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. In December she will be featured with her school orchestra, performing the Pezzo Capriccioso for cello and orchestra by Tchaikovsky.
Later this year, Crystal will represent her school in the All-National Honors Orchestra, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. Crystal will perform with students from across the country in Nashville, TN., under the baton of conductor Gerard Schwartz.
In 2013, Crystal performed with the NYSSMA All-State Orchestra and as the principal cellist with the Nassau All-County. This past summer, she sat as co-principal cellist at the New York State Summer School of the Arts in Saratoga, NY where she studied with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Crystal is pursuing a career in music and will be auditioning for music schools this winter.
