David Phelps to start opener vs. Rangers
TORONTO -- Joe Girardi officially named rookie righthander David Phelps, 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA in three starts this season, as his starter Monday night against the Rangers.
"I'm looking forward to it a lot," said Phelps, whose most recent start was July 4 against the Rays (one runs, four hits in 41/3 innings). "Hopefully, I can go out there and learn from what I did last time. It's a huge series."
Phelps will be on a pitch count of 75 to 80.
