Derek Jeter exits game with apparent injury

The Yankees are fighting for a playoff spot and losing Derek Jeter would be unimaginable.
Jeter left Wednesday night's 5-4 win against the Red Sox with an injury, after hustling down the line to try to avoid a double play in the eighth inning.
But Joe Girardi said Jeter suffered a bone bruise in his left ankle--far from the worst outcome--and the Yankees shortstop is expected to play on Thursday.
"Knowing Derek, he's gonna try," Girardi said.
Jeter came up limping after crossing the first base bag (he was out), and was taken out of the game after talking with head athletic trainer Steve Donohue and Girardi.
Jason Nix replaced Jeter at shortstop.
Jeter was 2-for-5 with a run scored on Wednesday. The pair of hits put him within one hit of tying Willie Mays for 11th place on the all-time hits list. Jeter currently has 3,282 hits.
