Joba Chamberlain makes rare pitching appearance

Joba Chamberlain saw some action Wednesday for the first time in a week and a half.

The reliever entered the game in the ninth with the bases loaded and the Yankees trailing 6-5. He faced four batters, allowing just one hit and striking out one. It was a bit of a surprise considering Joe Girardi had said he didn’t plan on using Chamberlain in any critical spots, preferring to let him work his way through things in less stressful situations.

“I have to continue to get out there, and prove to them, and prove to my teammates and everybody else that the ability is there to get people out,” Chamberlain said.

“Obviously, it hasn’t been great, but this is obviously the start and I wish the ending would have been a little different. But there’s something we can take from each of these and continue to get better.”

Ugandan team at Stadium

Two days after hosting Japan’s Little League squad, the Yankees welcomed the Ugandan team to the Stadium Wednesday.

Girardi gave them a personal tour of the Yankees’ locker room and they also spent some time on the field before the series finale.
