The Long Island Rail Road will provide additional trains to Citi Field for three days during the MLB All-Star events, officials said Wednesday.

Beginning Sunday at 10:40 a.m., trains on the Port Washington branch will run to the Mets-Willets Point station every 30 minutes -- compared with the usual hourly service -- around the times of the events Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said. More trains might be provided if the need arises.

"Either by Long Island Rail Road or via the subway, we've got all the bases covered for the All-Star week," LIRR president Helena Williams said in a news conference. "It [the All-Star Game] is just one of many events surrounding what is really a five-day baseball marathon."

Parking in the Citi Field lot will be limited as a number of the events will take up space in the lot, she said. As a result, the MTA encourages as many people as possible to take the train throughout the weekend.

Riders on other branches can switch at the Woodside station and take a Port Washington train or the No. 7 subway to Willets Point, the agency said.

Tickets will be collected at the Mets-Willets Point station when passengers exit the trains versus while on board, said Joe Calderone, vice president for customer service.

For a full schedule, the MTA advised riders to check the special schedule online at www.mta.info.
