Marcus Stroman gets the call ... he's going to The Show

Marcus Stroman is headed for the big leagues. The Toronto Blue Jays promoted the former Patchogue-Medford star righthander from Triple-A Buffalo late Saturday night.

"He got the call just before 11 p.m. and was so excited," said his father, Earl Stroman of Medford. "They're sending a car to drive him to Pittsburgh early Sunday morning. They couldn't find a flight to get him to Pittsburgh in time for the afternoon game, so he'll take the four-hour drive from Buffalo."

The Blue Jays will meet Pittsburgh at PNC Park in a 1:35 p.m. game Sunday.

Stroman, 23, who was the Buffalo Bisons' opening day starter, turned in his most impressive start on April 29 in a 4-1 win over Louisville. He pitched six no-hit innings, striking out 10 and walking one. He earned the win to even his record at 2-2 and drop his ERA to 1.69 in five starts.

The former Duke star had allowed 22 hits in 262/3 innings and was fourth in the International League with 36 strikeouts.

"It's the moment he's always dreamed about," Earl Stroman said. "Heck, it's the moment we've all prayed for. I'm very proud of him."
