He was only the third junior to earn the coveted Yastrzemski Award given to Suffolk's top player. The overpowering righthander rewrote the record books at Patchogue, while striking out 279 batters over four years. His pitching record was 22-4 with an ERA of 1.18, 20 complete games and eight shutouts. Also a slick-fielding shortstop, Stroman had 87 hits and 52 stolen bases in his career. He was drafted in the 18th round by the Washington Nationals but chose to attend Duke University on a baseball scholarship.

Marcus Stroman, depending on which publication you're reading at the time, is expected to be taken in the first or second round of the 2012 MLB first-year player draft.
Stroman, a Patchogue-Medford High School graduate who won the Yastrzemski Award in 2008 as the most outstanding baseball player in Suffolk County.

As a sophomore in 2011, Stroman pitched in 17 games, including eight starts, going 3-4 with four saves, a 2.80 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 64.1 innings. Stroman also batted .250 with 30 hits, 19 runs scored and 15 RBI. Last summer, he was a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, where he made seven relief appearances with four saves and 17 strikeouts in 8.1 scoreless innings. Marcus was originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the 18th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.
