Mark Teixeira (calf strain) ran the bases at about 90 percent, and although the first baseman felt good enough to play, Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donohue decided to give him one more day off.

“I would have loved to play today, but they just want to be smart,’’ Teixeira said. He added with a smile, “If I don’t play tomorrow, we’ll have a conversation.’’
