This Friday, the Yankees and Mets renew their crosstown rivalry when the Mets travel to Yankee Stadium. Hard to believe, but this is the 14th year the teams will face off in interleague play. An entire generation of fans and players from both teams has come and gone.

That got us thinking.

If we could make an ultimate lineup of stars from both teams during the Subway Series era, from 1997-present, who would be on it?

Would we have Posada or Piazza at catcher? Wright or A-Rod at third? Jeter or Reyes at leadoff?

And while we had our thinking caps on, who from the Subway Series era would comprise the ultimate pitching staff?

Would it be a staff of future Hall of Famers like Clemens, Randy Johnson and Pedro? Or would we just go with our sentimental favorites, like Dave Mlicki, David Wells and David Cone?

Then we decided to open it up to you guys. Using the links below, you can now create your Ultimate Subway Series lineup and five-man rotation from a pool of Mets and Yankees stars from the Subway Series era. You can also compare your picks to other readers', share your selections on Twitter and Facebook and submit up to 25 entries.

A final note: You'll notice the stats accompanying each player's name and photo in our pool. Those numbers are from Subway Series games only. You can look up career and season stats anywhere, but good luck finding those numbers anywhere else, even on baseball-reference.com. You can use those stats to make your decisions; or ignore them completely and go with your gut.

We hope you enjoy filling out your virtual lineup cards as much as we did. Have fun and offer some feedback below if you like.
