The Mets will honor Ed Kranepool with a tribute patch of his No. 7 on the sleeve of all team jerseys this season, the team announced Wednesday.

Kranepool, for decades a resident of Nassau County, died on Sept. 8, 2024, at the age of 79.

He spent his entire 18-year career with the Mets (1962-79), and was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1990.

“Of all the stats and records Ed accomplished throughout his career, the thing he was most proud of was that he spent his entire Major League career in a Mets uniform,” former teammate Art Shamsky said in a statement. “Ed would be touched that the team will be wearing his number seven on their uniform all year long.”

The Mets will honor Kranepool before the home opener against the Blue Jays on April 4 at Citi Field. The Mets said Kranepool’s 17 family members will be accompanied by Shamsky for the pregame ceremony.

Kranepool, an All-Star in 1965, was a member of the 1969 Miracle Mets. He remains in the top 10 in numerous career team statistical categories, including plate appearances, hits, at-bats, total bases, doubles, RBI, walks and runs.
