Gopher balls piling up for Bartolo Colon

About the only good news for the Mets after Friday night's rainout was that Bartolo Colon officially has given up one fewer home run than he has in reality.

But while Aaron Hill's second-inning shot over the leftfield wall was washed away along with everything else that happened in the 3 1/2 innings, Colon's tendency to give up the long ball remains a concern for the Mets.

Officially, Colon has allowed nine home runs in 57 1/3 innings a year after he gave up 14 in 190 1/3 innings with Oakland. He's given up two homers in three starts at spacious Citi Field -- three in four games if not for the rainout.

"I think it all comes down to the fact that when you're a two-seam guy and you live and die with the two-seamer, it's got to be down where they're going to swing over the top of it and not through it," manager Terry Collins said.

But Colon has struggled with his location.

"The ball to Aaron Hill yesterday, it wasn't knee high, it was belt high," Collins said. "And it got hit."

Not a Puig fan

Mets reliever Carlos Torres is decidedly not a fan of the way talented Dodgers rightfielder Yasiel Puig plays the game. In an interview with SiriusXM's Casey Stern, Torres said: "If you watch him before a ball is hit, he's just standing straight up and down. Maybe he might bend over once or twice. And he's almost never ready to field the ball . . . I don't care to watch him."

Extra bases

The Mets said Travis d'Arnaud will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday after being cleared to play in the wake of his concussion . . . The Mets will call up Vic Black to be their 26th player during Sunday's doubleheader. The hard-throwing righthander has struggled with his command this season, walking 17 in 18 2/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas. Said Collins, "The command is just not what you would like it to be for a guy you project to be the closer one day."
