Mets make Jose Reyes’ one-year deal official

The Mets officially announced the signing of Jose Reyes to a one-year agreement.
Reyes’ agreement could earn $2.5 million if he achieves certain unspecified incentives, a source said.
“I’m glad to be back,” Reyes said in a statement issued Friday. “This is my home. I’m excited to be back with a great group of teammates. I will do everything I can to help us get back to the postseason.”
Reyes, who turns 35 in June, is expected to be a utility infielder as the Mets intend to start Amed Rosario at shortstop and Asdrubal Cabrera at third base. The team is believed to be shopping for a second baseman.
Reyes leads all active players with 512 stolen bases and is one of nine players in major-league history with at least 100 triples, 100 runs and 500 stolen bases.
Reyes has hit 21 leadoff home runs with the Mets, tied for the most in team history with Curtis Granderson.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Reyes, the Mets designated LHP Josh Smoker for assignment.
