Mets prospects watch: Kelenic has a breakout day

Jarred Kelenic, the Mets’ 2018 first-round draft pick, had a huge day to help lead the Rookie-level Kingsport Mets to a doubleheader sweep over Bristol on Aug. 22. Kelenic, the Mets’ No. 3 prospect, went 4-for-7 with a home run, double and four RBIs, with the homer and double coming in the first game. The outfielder, is batting .277 on the season and owns a six-game hitting streak.

1. Andres Gimenez, SS

In his last 10 games, Gimenez has recorded four multihit games to raise his batting average to .301. A lefthanded hitter, the 19-year-old is batting .333 against Double-A righthanders, but .214 versus southpaws.

2. Peter Alonso, 1B

Las Vegas 51s

Alonso, with 17 homers and 109 RBIs  going into Saturday, may find his season ending in the desert. Mets manager Mickey Calloway told Newsday  on Saturday that his defense is a concern and a September call-up is not a given.

4. Justin Dunn, RHP

Binghamton

The Freeport native has a 6-4 record with a 3.11 ERA after his promotion to Double-A.

The 2016 first-round pick has gone at least six innings in each of his last three starts, allowing only four earned runs in his last 19.2 innings.

5. Franklyn Kilome, RHP

Binghamton

Kilome is 0-1 with a 2.96 ERA in his four starts since coming over in the Asdrubal Cabrera trade. His best outing was Aug. 10, against Reading, his former team, going 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out a season-high 10 with two walks.
