PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets will send a "sizable" contingent to Friday's memorial service for Gary Carter, according to team spokesman Jay Horwitz, with the ceremony taking place only a 45-minute drive from their spring training complex.

Carter's service is to be held at Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. It will begin at 7 p.m.

Kimmy Bloemers, one of Carter's three children, has asked on behalf of the family that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Gary Carter Foundation, 580 Village Blvd., Suite 315, West Palm Beach, Fla., 33409. Donations will go to support the Autism Project of Palm Beach County, Hospice of Palm Beach County and Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball.
