Mets second baseman Robinson Cano goes deep with solo home run in first at-bat with club

Robinson Cano made his presence felt in the Mets lineup right away.
The new second baseman got his career in blue and orange started right with a solo home run in his first plate appearance with the club, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead before Jacob deGrom even took the mound.
With a 1-1 count, Nationals ace Max Scherzer threw Cano a changeup on the inside half of the plate with little break. Cano jumped on the pitch, sending it over the fence just left of centerfield.
With the homer, Cano became the 10th player to homer in his first at-bat with the Mets. He's the first to do so since Mike Jacobs did it in his first major-league at-bat on Aug. 21, 2005.
Cano, batting third in his first game with the club, wound up providing all of the offense for the Mets on Thursday, adding another run with an RBI single in the eighth inning. The Amazin's improved their MLB-best Opening Day record with a 2-0 win over Washington.
