Mets rookie Kevin Plawecki looked over at the baseball sitting on the shelf in his locker. As far as he could tell, it was the one he launched over the leftfield fence Saturday at Yankee Stadium.
"I don't know if they picked it out of the ball bag or that's it," he said after hitting his first major-league homer, a two-run shot off CC Sabathia. "But I'm going to treat it [the same]."
Plawecki, 24, contributed both at the plate and behind it in the Mets' 8-2 victory over the Yankees.
"It was great, especially given the situation we were in," said Plawecki, who had three RBIs. "It was a good time to put a few runs on the board and give us a little cushion. I was just happy to put a good swing on it."
Plawecki's work behind the plate earned raves from Matt Harvey, who was pulled one out away from his second career complete game and first this season.
"It was awesome," Harvey said. "As the game went on, we had a couple innings there where we were right on the same page. I let him know that he did a great job."
