MLB pitchers to throw two no-hitters in one season
Johnny Vander Meer, 1938 Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati's Vander Meer became the first pitcher in major-league history to throw two no-hitters in a single season -- and to this day is the only pitcher to accomplish the feat in consecutive starts. He held the Boston Bees and Brooklyn Dodgers hitless on June 11 and June 15, respectively, but allowed a combined 11 walks in the starts.

Scherzer struck out a combined 27 batters and allowed zero walks in his two no-hitters, keeping the playoff-bound Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates at bay in his dominant outings. The only batters to reach base in the two no-hitters were Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata (on an HBP with one strike left in the game) and Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki (on a throwing error by Yunel Escobar in the third inning).
