JOE DIMAGGIO, New York Yankees
Hit streak: 56 games
Started: May 15, 1941 vs. White Sox at Yankee Stadium
Ended: July 17, 1941 vs. Indians at Cleveland Stadium
DiMaggio?s streak ranks as one of the greatest records in professional sports. During the streak, he batted .409 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs. And after Al Smith and Jim Bagby of the Indians stopped his streak, DiMaggio then ripped off another 16-game streak.

WILLIE KEELER, Baltimore Orioles (top right)
Hit steak: 45 games
Started: Sept. 26, 1896 vs. New York Giants at the Polo Grounds
Ended: June 18, 1897 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates at Oriole Park
Keeler's streak began on the final day of the 1896 season. He began the 1897 season with a 44-game hit streak, which is still a record for consecutive games with a hit to begin a season.

PETE ROSE, Cincinnati Reds
Hit steak: 44 games
Started: June 14, 1978 vs. Cubs at Riverfront Stadium
Ended: Aug. 1, 1978 vs. Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium
During the 1978 season, Rose became the 13th player to collect his 3,000 hit. Rose remains the all-time hit king with 4,256 hits.

BILL DAHLEN, Chicago Colts
Hit steak: 42 games
Started: June 20, 1894
Ended: Aug. 6, 1894
The day after his 42-game hit streak ended, he began at 28 game hit-streak.

GEORGE SISLER, St. Louis Browns
Hit steak: 41 games
Started: July 27, 1922 vs. Yankees at Sportsman Park
Ended: Sept. 18, 1922 vs. Yankees at Sportsman Park
Bullet Joe Bush was the winning pitcher when Sisler's streak began and ended.

TY COBB, Detroit Tigers
Hit streak: 40 games
Started: May 15, 1911 vs. Boston Red Sox
Ended: July 4, 1911 vs. Chicago White Sox
During Cobb’s 1911 season, he led the league in hits, runs, RBIs, stolen bases, doubles, triples and slugging percentage on his way to the MVP.

PAUL MOLITOR, Milwaukee Brewers
Hit streak: 39 games
Started: July 16, 1987 vs. Angels at County Stadium
Ended: Aug. 26, 1987 vs. Indians at County Stadium
Moliter was on-deck when his hitting streak ended thanks to teammate Rick Manning knocking the game-winning hit to beat the Indians. He was 0-for-4.

JIMMY ROLLINS, Philadelphia Phillies
Hit streak: 38 games
Started: Aug. 23, 2005 vs. Giants at SBC Park
Ended: April 6, 2006 vs. Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park
Rollins hit safely in the last 36 games of the 2005 season and extended the hitting streak during the first two games of the 2006 season.

TOMMY HOLMES, Boston Braves (Far left)
Hit streak: 37 games
Started: June 6, 1945 vs. Phillies at Shibe Park
Ended: July 12, 1945 vs. Cubs at Wrigley Field
Holmes’ hit streak began and ended during the first game of a doubleheader. At the time, his hit-streak was an NL Record until Pete Rose hit in 44 straight games in 1978.

Started: Sept. 8, 1896 vs. St. Louis Browns at Boundary Field

The streak began over the last 17 games of the 1896 season and carried over to the first 19 games of the 1897 season.

TY COBB, Detroit Tigers
Hit streak: 35 games
Started: May 31, 1917 vs. Yankees at the Polo Grounds
Ended: July 6, 1917 vs. White Sox at Tigers Stadium
Cobb’s hitting streak in 1917 was his second with of 35 games or more. Cobb was inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame class in 1936 after playing 26 seasons. His .366 lifetime average remains a record till this day. Over his career, Cobb had six hitting streaks of at least 20 games, second only to Pete Rose's seven.

GEORGE SISLER, St. Louis Browns

Started: Sept. 27, 1924 vs. Indians at Dunn Field
Ended: May 20, 1925 vs. Philadelphia Athletics at Sportsman Park
Sisler’s streak began on the final day of the 1924 season and carried over to the 1925 season. His 257 hits in 1920 was a record for a single season until Ichiro Suzuki has 262 hits in 2004.

FRED CLARKE, Louisville Colonels (Left)
Hit streak: 35 games
Started: 1895
Ended: 1895
Clarke's hitting streak began during his second season in the American Association league with the Louisville Colonels. Clarke played 21 seasons and collected 2,678 hits. He finished his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1945 by the Veterans Committee.

CHASE UTLEY, Philadelphia Phillies
Hit streak: 35 games
Started: June 23, 2006 vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park
Ended: Aug. 4, 2006 vs. Mets at Shea Stadium
Utley's hitting streak was the longest for a lefty since Tommy Holmes hit in 37 straight games in 1945.

LUIS CASTILLO, Florida Marlins
Hit streak: 35 games
Started: May 8, 2002 vs. Padres at Pro Player Stadium
Ended: June 22, 2002 vs. Tigers at Pro Player Stadium
Castillo was on the on-deck circle and deprived of extending his hitting streak when pinch-hitter Tim Raines hit a sacrifice fly against the Tigers in the bottom of the 9th inning.
