Russell Martin on trade: 'The Dodgers are serious'

CLEVELAND — Count the Yankees among the stunned about the blockbuster Red Sox-Dodgers trade.
“I think everyone’s shaking their heads,’’ said Derek Lowe, a member of the Red Sox from 1997-2004 and the Dodgers from 2005-08. Joe Girardi said: “It’s surprising. You’re not used to seeing that many big names go in one trade.’"
Russell Martin, a Dodger from 2006-10, said the new Los Angeles ownership is sending a message.
“It says the Dodgers are serious,’’ he said. “They want to go after it this year.’"
Mark Teixeira has said he’s never regretted his decision to pick the Yankees over the Red Sox when he was a free agent before the 2009 season.
The title he won as a Yankee that year obviously is reason enough. But he said something else pushed him to the Bronx — the desire not to be in the situation that big-money, big-commitment players such as Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez find themselves in.
“One of the reasons I didn’t sign with Boston is they don’t offer full no-trade clauses,’’ Teixeira said. “I would hate, personally, as a father and a husband, I would hate to uproot my family here in New York and get traded somewhere else. That would be devastating ... Boston doesn’t give full no-trade clauses, and this is what could happen.’"
