Derek Jeter passes Honus Wagner for sixth on MLB hit list

With his sixth-inning, infield single to third off the Indians Corey Kluber Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, Jeter took over sole possession of sixth place on baseball’s all-time hits list with 3,431. Jeter grounded out in his first at-bat and was robbed of a single on a diving stop of a ground smash by first baseman Carlos Santana in the fourth inning.
Jeter’s infield single in Friday night’s victory pulled him even with Honus Wagner at 3,430 hits.
Jeter, who has 115 hits so far this season, would need a torrid stretch over the final seven weeks to catch Tris Speaker, who resides in fifth place on the list with 3,514 hits.
The 40-year-old Jeter entered Saturday hitting .305 (32-for-105) over his previous 27 games since July 6.
