Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the plan was for Derek Jeter, who resumed on-field work Tuesday in Tampa, to hit “today or tomorrow."

He also reiterated what he said Tuesday: Despite the success of Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher leading off, Jeter will be in that spot when he returns.

“These guys have done a great job in Derek’s absence, Swish has done a great job against lefthanders, Gardy’s done a great job against the righthanders,” Girardi said. “But when Derek comes back I’m going to put him in the leadoff spot.”
