Jays score eight off Colon, Ayala with two outs in first
Bartolo Colon was close to getting out of trouble in the first inning, inducing a groundout against Adam Lind, setting the Blue Jays up with two outs and runners on second and third.
In the end, though, the big righty couldn't even get out of the inning.
The Blue Jays would score eight runs in all in the first, seven with Colon on the hill, and then the final run via a Luis Ayala balk. Here's a breakdown of the two-out play-by-play:
Aaron Hill singled to center, scoring Eric Thames and Jose Bautista. 2-0 Blue Jays.
Edwin Encarnacion walked, sending Aaron Hill to second base.
Travis Snider singled, scoring Hill. Encarnacion advanced to second. 3-0 Blue Jays.
JJ Arencibia grounded into a fielder's choice to third, but an error by Eduardo Nunez allowed all runners to advance safely.
Rajai Davis hit an infield single to Colon, scoring Encarnacion. Bases loaded, 4-0 Blue Jays.
Yunel Escobar hit an infield single to Colon, scoring Snider. Bases loaded, 5-0 Blue Jays.
Thames hit a ground rule double, scording Arencibia and Davis. 7-0 Blue Jays.
Ayala came in to replace Colon.
Ayala balked, scoring Escobar, who was at third. 8-0 Blue Jays.
Bautista popped out.
Thames had two hits in the inning, and the Jays scored eight runs without Bautista, an MVP candidate, getting any hits. He did draw a one-out walk against Colon.
