Joe Girardi: 'Definitely a possibility' that Alex Rodriguez will be back vs. Rays
Joe Girardi called it "definitely a possibility'' that Alex Rodriguez will rejoin the Yankees sometime early this week when they play the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.
"All the reports I got were good,'' Girardi said of A-Rod's first game Friday, in which he went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run and two strikeouts while serving as the DH. He struck out twice and went 0-for-4 Saturday night.
Rodriguez started at third Saturday night and had one play, a routine grounder. He took extra batting practice before and after the game and said he felt no pain in his left hand.
Rodriguez went on the disabled list July 25 after the Mariners' Felix Hernandez hit him with a pitch the night before, fracturing his left fifth metacarpal.
General manager Brian Cashman expected Rodriguez to be the DH today because it is an 11 a.m. start.
