Righthander Adam Warren, whom Baseball America rated the 12th-best prospect in the Yankees' system entering this season, has honored that ranking.
The 23-year-old entered spring training a long-shot candidate to win one of the rotation spots and ended up having few opportunities, given the performances of Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon.
Still, he pitched well in limited action (four games and 52/3 innings) going 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA.
The 6-2, 215-pound Warren, who went 7-5 in 15 starts with a 2.22 ERA with Class A Tampa last season before earning a promotion and going 4-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 10 starts for Double-A Trenton, has continued that progress this year for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Warren is 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA.
A minor negative to this point has been control. Warren has walked 25 in 53 innings after allowing only 33 walks in 1351/3 innings last season (and striking out 126).
