Delon Wright agrees to buyout with Wizards, intends to join Heat, AP source says
INDIANAPOLIS — Delon Wright has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards and, once he clears waivers, intends to sign with the Miami Heat, a person with knowledge of the move said Friday.
Wright's intention is to be with the Heat when they resume practice after the All-Star break, said the person.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move is still pending.
ESPN first reported the buyout and Wright's intention to join the Heat.
Miami would be the eighth team for Wright, whose older brother Dorell Wright was part of the Heat team that won the 2006 NBA championship. Delon Wright's signing will also provide the Heat with some insurance, with guard Josh Richardson's status unclear after he dislocated his shoulder against Boston on Sunday.
Wright averaged 4.1 points this season for Washington. He's averaged 7 points on 35% shooting from 3-point range over his 494-game regular season career with Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, Sacramento, Memphis and the Wizards.
