The Knicks signed center D.J. Mbenga, who played for Phil Jackson and with Derek Fisher with the Lakers.
Mbenga has averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds during seven seasons with the Mavericks, Warriors, Lakers and Pelicans. He won titles with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010. Mbenga spent the last two seasons playing in China and the Philippines.
His signing gives the Knicks 19 players on their training camp roster, and now six players who can handle the center position. The Knicks open their preseason slate Wednesday against the Celtics in Hartford.
