CLEVELAND - The Knicks are expected to sign veteran center Dan Gadzuric later today.
Gadzuric gives the Knicks insurance up front with Jared Jeffries slowed with a knee injury. Gadzuric will be eligible for the playoffs.
Jeffries, who missed eight games in March and April with right knee inflammation, didn’t play Wednesday in New Jersey and won’t play tonight.
The Knicks want to rest Jeffries, see if the knee calms down and if he can play in the postseason. Jeffries, who had surgery on his right knee last year, has been a valuable player, especially defensively, for the Knicks this season.
Gadzuric is a nine-year NBA veteran. He’s averaged 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Bucks, Warriors and Nets. He played in China this season.
“It gives us another big just in case Jared, there’s a problem with him not being able to come back from his rest,” coach Mike Woodson said. “It gives us a veteran big who’s been around, that can use fouls, rebound and defend.”
To make room for Gadzuric, Woodson said the Knicks would waive Bill Walker. Gadzuric is expected to be at tonight’s game against the Cavaliers.
