Carmelo Anthony's status for Saturday's game in Chicago probably won’t be known until Saturday.
But it might make sense for him to sit out one more game and let his injured left middle finger heal a little more.
Tyson Chandler suggested that very idea.
“I told him [Wednesday] night, ‘Sit out. It’s not worth it,’’’ Chandler said. “That laceration can easily bust back open and then we lose him for even longer. It’s just important that he gets some scar tissue before he comes back. I think he shouldn’t come back until maybe we get back to New York. But we’ll see how his finger heals.”
It makes sense. The Knicks got the big they wanted against the Heat without Anthony.
He wanted to play against the Heat, but after he tried to shoot he decided not to risk it. Mike Woodson said Anthony told him it didn’t feel right.
At the very least, Anthony absolutely is going to want to play when the Knicks get back to New York.
They play his old team, the Nuggets, in Madison Square Garden. His former coach George Karl has been critical of Anthony’s play being all about offense. But this season, he’s shown a more all-around game, that he probably will want to display for Karl.
