Magic, Bird share stage on Letterman
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, promoting the Broadway play that chronicles their careers and friendship, "Magic/Bird."
In the interview, Bird and Johnson talked about their rivalry, both on the court -- where the two were fierce rivals, Bird joking he didn't like "Magic," but he liked "Earvin" -- and off the court.
"Larry made me have sleepless nights," Johnson said, "because I was scared to death, I knew he could beat me."
Letterman asked each player who was better.
"I've always said I go by success," Bird said. "He won more championships than me, so I give him the nod."
"I've always said that Larry is the better player," Johnson argued, pointing to Bird's superior shooting and outside game.
Magic/Bird opened Wednesday night at the Longacre Theatre.
