The Nets promoted B.J. Johnson to assistant general manager on Wednesday, the team announced.

Johnson, who will work alongside fellow assistant GM Andy Birdsong, spent the past two seasons as the senior director of college scouting and player evaluation and is entering his eighth season with the team.

Johnson replaces Jeff Peterson, who was hired by the Hornets in May as executive vice president of basketball operations.

General manager Sean Marks praised Johnson this offseason for overseeing the team's draft process, including drafting Nic Claxton in 2019. That process becomes more important with the Nets owning 10 first-round picks over the next four drafts, including four in 2025.
