Jason Kidd announces coaching staff, headed by Lawrence Frank

Jason Kidd filled out his coaching staff Friday, and it officially includes Lawrence Frank.

The Nets announced the additions of Frank, Roy Rogers and Eric Hughes to Kidd's staff. Doug Overton, a holdover from Avery Johnson's staff, has been retained.

Frank coached the Nets from 2004-09. His presence is a big get for Kidd, who publicly extended the invitation to Frank once he got the job two weeks ago. Frank, who was fired by the Pistons in April, was dealing with some family issues and needed time to figure out if he wanted to commit to yet another seasonlong grind.

Frank's presence should help the 40-year-old Kidd's transition from player to coach.

"I am very pleased to add Lawrence, Roy, Eric and Doug to my staff,'' Kidd said in a statement. "They collectively bring a wealth of NBA experience to our bench, both from a coach and player perspective. This combination will not only prove beneficial to me but will be an invaluable asset to our players.''

With the coaching staff complete, the Nets will focus on adding pieces to the revamped roster. A league source confirmed Thursday night that the Nets have struck a blockbuster deal with the Celtics to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry from the Celtics. That will give the Nets a potential starting five of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez, Pierce and Garnett.

There also have been conflicting reports about the Nets' interest in free-agent backup center Jason Collins, the first openly gay player in the NBA. The Nets declined to comment on Collins.

Collins and Kidd played together for seven seasons with the Nets, including two trips to the NBA Finals. Collins also spent part of the past season in Boston with Garnett and Pierce.

The Nets, however, likely won't have a major need for another physical frontcourt player.

They took 6-10 center Mason Plumlee of Duke with the 22nd pick in Thursday night's NBA draft and will bring back veteran power forward Reggie Evans, who averaged 11.1 rebounds last season. Evans reportedly will not be included in the deal with the Celtics. Andray Blatche, a 6-11 backup center/power forward who played in all 82 regular-season games with the Nets, said after the season that he would like to return if things work out.
