The Nets are really about to go national now.
NBATV's "The Association" will feature the franchise in its initial season in Brooklyn, it was announced Wednesday. The program, entering its fourth year, gives fans a unique behind-the-scenes perspective of a particular team.
The Nets made a flurry of offseason moves, notably re-signing All-Star point guard Deron Williams and trading for All-Star shooting guard Joe Johnson. They've seemingly been in the spotlight all summer, even after one of their targets -- Dwight Howard -- was shipped to the Lakers to finally put an end to the Dwightmare.
They're set to play in the $1 billion Barclays Center and expect to be among the Eastern Conference's top teams. So, there's plenty of intrigue regarding the Nets and "The Association" is tagging along for the ride. The program debuts Oct. 16.
“I think it’s great that the NBA will be documenting our inaugural season in Brooklyn as part of The Association,” Williams said in a statement. “As we make history bringing a professional sports team to Brooklyn, fans will get to have an inside look. Our new home, the borough of Brooklyn, will provide a great backdrop for the series, and I think people are going to be pretty excited with their exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new arena.”
The program is expected to also include interviews with some members of Brooklyn's last pro team -- the Dodgers -- and various celebrities from the Borough of Kings.
Previously, the Lakers, Celtics and Nuggets were chronicled on the show.
“The Brooklyn Nets are honored to be selected by the NBA as the featured team in this year’s installment of The Association,” GM Billy King said. “We are very excited about our first season playing in Brooklyn at Barclays Center, and this series will document superbly this historic move for the Nets’ franchise.”
